Stanley Eguma, the technical adviser for Enyimba, claims that the squad has moved past the initial setbacks of the 2024–2025 NPFL season and is now concentrating on a more successful second-round campaign.
Moments after the nine-time champions won the second stanza on the road for the first time, Eguma remarked.
On Monday, the postponed NPFL matchday 22 match took place at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
Ifeanyi Ihemekwele scored eight minutes past the half-hour mark, and the two-time African champions persevered to win a historic triumph over Lobi Stars.
With four goals in the NPFL and CAF Confederation Cup, Ihemekwele scored his eighth goal of the season overall.
After defeating Nasarawa United 2-1, Eguma’s triumph over Daniel Amokachi’s team is his second in six games.
Along with losing to Kano Pillars and Kwara United, he has also recorded two draws: 0-0 against Bendel Insurance and 1-1 against Heartland.
Eguma has guided Enyimba to one CAF Confederation Cup group-stage triumph since arriving, a 4-1 thumping of Mozambique’s Black Bulls, a 1-1 tie with Egypt’s Al Masry, and a 3-1 loss to Zamalek.
Even though they overcame their difficulties in the first round, Eguma acknowledged that the team’s present standing in the NPFL rankings was concerning.
“It’s a good performance and a good result. We drew at home, and now we’ve won away,” Eguma stated.
“I joined this team recently, and the players are gradually understanding my philosophy, just as I am getting to know them better. This growing understanding is the reason we got this result.
“We’re gradually putting our first-round struggles behind us, but we’re still worried about our position in the league table. Our focus is to improve our standing.
“It’s still a work in progress, and it’s not yet time for celebration because we have a lot to do to climb the table.
“I congratulate the players for their efforts and encourage them to do more so we can achieve better results in the coming matches,” Eguma concluded.
With 31 points from 22 games, Enyimba is presently ranked eighth in the NPFL standings.
On Sunday, they will play Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo in Matchday 23 of the NPFL.
