Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State cautioned Nigerians on Thursday against politicising the tax reform bills.
Addressing journalists in Owerri, Imo State, the governor said most of those criticising the bills have not studied it.
He said: “Many of us who are criticising the tax reform bills have not even taken the time to go through the bills.
“It’s an economic bill that is meant to raise more money for the government; it’s also meant to harmonise our tax system and bring some kind of prudence and decorum to our taxation regime in the country.
“I’m of the view that people should not subject the bills to politics or blackmail; they should just look at it and see how far they can criticise or support the bill.
“I think it’s a document that has been crafted in a well-articulated manner and it deserves to be given proper attention, particularly when it’s an executive bill from the president; it shouldn’t be trivialised.”
