Atalanta’s winning streak in Serie A came to an end on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with Lazio.
Marco Brescianini’s late equaliser negated the hosts’ first-half strike from Fisayo oDele-Bashiru.
Atalanta’s 11-game winning streak came to an end, but Gian Piero Gasperini’s team still leads the table with 41 points, one more than Inter Milan, who defeated Cagliari 3-0 earlier on Saturday.
With 35 points, Lazio is in fourth place.
Lazio got off to a fast start in the first few minutes, with Matteo Guendouzi capping the attack with a long-range effort that went off the post after Atalanta keeper Marco Carnesecchi saved a double chance from Valentin Castellanos.
Around the 20-minute mark, Davide Zappacosta gave Atalanta their first significant opportunity with a low volley that just missed the far post.
After controlling the first half, Lazio was rewarded in the 27th minute when Dele-Bashiru cut inside the box and blasted a bouncing volley into the net after Nicolo Rovella had sent a superb through ball.
Ademola Lookman forced the home team’s keeper Ivan Provedel to make a fingertip save shortly after the hour mark as Atalanta gained momentum following Lazio’s goal.
When a cross from a counterattack slipped past the still-reorganizing Atalanta defence, Lazio had a chance to effectively seal the victory, but Boulaye Dia missed the ball, going unmarked in front of the goal.
Minutes later, a corner that landed at the feet of an unmarked Lookman just in front of goal gave Atalanta the opportunity to tie the score, but defender Luca Pellegrini stopped the attempt.
The thrilling final act of the match continued as Dia found an opportunity to double Lazio’s lead moments later, sending a powerful strike towards Carnesecchi, who managed to push it away.
Two minutes before the end, Lookman served Brescianini from the left past Provedel, and the visitors earned their draw when Brescianini tapped in an open goal from close range with ease.
