Dean Huijsen penned another new chapter in AFC Bournemouth’s record books by becoming the club’s youngest goalscorer in the Premier League.
The 19-year-old defender bagged the only goal of the game in the 17th minute as the Cherries registered a memorable 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. Huijsen’s powerful far post header from Marcus Tavernier’s corner earned Andoni Iraola’s team a deserved victory over the North Londoners.
It came just days after Justin Kluivert had written a new piece of history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick of penalties in the top flight during the Cherries’ 4-2 win at Wolves.
Victory saw the Cherries leapfrog Spurs into ninth place in the table and could have been by a greater margin as they created a hatful of presentable chances. Spurs defender Ben Davies received a booking just four minutes in after cynically hauling back Evanilson as he prepared to mount an attack.
The first shooting chance fell to Dejan Kulusevski but the Sweden international’s strike was saved comfortably by Cherries goalkeeper Kepa. Huijsen did enough to prevent Dominic Solanke testing Kepa, the Cherries defender sliding in as the striker prepared to pull the trigger.
And after Solanke had seized possession near the halfway line and raced goalwards, Huijsen’s challenge diverted his effort for a corner. Evanilson was denied by a fine save from Fraser Forster, the Spurs goalkeeper parrying from the Brazilian after Adam Smith’s low cross had eventually found its way to him.
From the resultant corner delivered with accuracy to the far post by Marcus Tavernier, Huijsen arrived to plant a bullet header past Forster as Cherries opened the scoring in the 17th minute. As the visitors looked for an immediate reply, Solanke’s header flew well wide of the post and Kulusevski’s shot cleared the crossbar.
