Danny Jordaan Arrested on R1.3 Million Fraud and Theft Charges

by admin

South African football, South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan, along with a 55-year-old SAFA executive and a 46-year-old businessman, has been taken into custody on charges linked to a R1.3 million fraud and theft scheme.

According to Colonel Katlego Mogale, spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), “These arrests follow an in-depth investigation into allegations of fraud and theft amounting to R1.3 million.” The allegations center on the misuse of SAFA’s resources between 2014 and 2018, with charges indicating that Jordaan used SAFA funds to hire a private security firm for his own protection and enlisted a public relations company, allegedly without securing approval from the SAFA board.

The Hawks’ investigation, described by Mogale as “detailed and comprehensive,” culminated in the execution of arrest warrants early Wednesday morning. The case has already garnered significant attention due to Jordaan’s prominent role in South African sports administration. As the investigation unfolds, SAFA has not yet issued a statement regarding Jordaan’s arrest or the ongoing case, but the charges cast a spotlight on issues of governance and financial management within the organization.
