The draw has been concluded for the five-team group at the COSAFA Under-20 Women’s Championship that will be staged in Johannesburg from November 19-24.

South Africa held position A1 as the host nation, with the other four teams draws into their respective slots. Lesotho are in A2, Zambia will take up the A3 position, Mozambique go into A4 and Botswana have A5.

The opening game of the tournament will be between Lesotho and Zambia on Tuesday at 12h00 CAT (10h00 GMT) at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus, with hosts South Africa to face Mozambique at 15h00 at the same venue.

Botswana will enter the competition next Wednesday when they take on Mozambique at 12h00, and later in the day South Africa take on Zambia in what could be a key battle at 15h00.

There will be a rest day to follow, before the remainder of the matches are played in a round robin format.

The teams will receive three points for a win and one for a draw, with the top side in the table after all matches are completed to be crowned champions for 2024.

East African guest nation Tanzania lifted the trophy in the inaugural women’s U20 championship in 2019. They beat Zambia 2-1 in the final of a competition that was run concurrently with the 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship in Gqeberha.
