The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has declared that market forces would stabilise the price of fuel soon.

Akpabio who made the declaration during a media briefing said deregulation would not lead to significant increase in fuel price.

He explained that the removal of the petroleum subsidy is a necessary step to redirect funds to more critical areas.

Akpabio spoke in response to a question on the recent fuel prices, by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Akpabio stated that the removal of subsidy would mean that Nigerians would need to tighten their belts.

He added that an increase in product availability would eventually lead to lower prices.

In a bid to enhance effective local government administration in Adamawa State, Garga Foundation, in collaboration with the Adamawa Concerned Women In Politics (ACWIP), organized a one-day capacity-building training for the newly elected vice chairmen of the state’s 21 local governments.
Supported by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), USAID, and UKAID, the training aimed at equipping the all-women vice chairmen with essential leadership and administrative skills.

Speaking at the event, Rukayya Aminu Muhammad, Program Manager of Garga Foundation, emphasized the organization’s commitment to empowering women and communities through leadership and education. “This training aligns with our mission to strengthen women’s rights and participation in politics. We are thrilled to see vice chairs from all 21 LGAs dedicated to advancing leadership at the grassroots level,” she remarked. Muhammad also lauded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his unprecedented support in ensuring women hold leadership roles across the state.

Hon. Kate Mamuno, majority leader of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, encouraged participants to fully engage in the sessions, revealing her efforts to introduce a bill mandating women to serve as deputy governors. She praised the state’s leadership for its commitment to gender inclusion, noting that both the deputy governor and the chief judge are exemplary women.

Zainab Abubakar, president of ACWIP, expressed optimism about the training, stating that it would sharpen the vice chairmen’s leadership skills and help bridge the gap in governance. “Adamawa women are resilient, and today marks another step toward breaking barriers in leadership,” she said.

Seray Jah, Country Director of IFES, extended his congratulations to the vice chairmen, urging them to embrace their roles as ambassadors of women in leadership. He applauded Adamawa’s growing reputation for championing women’s participation in politics and governance.

The training, which focused on governance, transparency, and community engagement, is seen as a crucial step toward more inclusive and effective local government administration in Adamawa.

Women from Ogoni ethnic nationality in Rivers State, Southsouth Nigeria have raised the alarm over continuous herdsmen attack in their farms. They called on the Rivers State Government to intervene.

The women explained that herdsmen attack was becoming incessant inside their farms in Luusue Sogho, Khana LGA of Rivers State.

Speaking at the Ogoni Women Environment Assembly organized by Lokiaka Community Development Centre in Nortem, Bori, the women explained that the menace was now affecting food production, as they were now scared of going to their farms.

They explained that herdsmen rape women in their farms, and also kill some farmers who resisted their cows from entering their farms.

The women who came from the four Ogoni communities in Khana Local Government Areas of Rivers State were enlightened on the impact of divestment, climate change, and oil pollution on food production and insecurity.

Speaking with Newsmen the Executive Director of Lokiaka Community Development Centre, Martha Agbani, lamented that crude oil pollution and the environmental degradation in Ogoniland had severely affected food production.

Agbani said the training was imperative to build the women’s negotiation, leadership and communication skills, in order to enable them to articulate their challenges and make demands from relevant authorities on issues affecting them, particularly on divestments and climate change.

The training, which had breakout sessions for group discussions and presentation, saw the women narrating the challenges facing them in their communities, ranging from incessant oil spills, herdsmen attack, marginalisation, insecurity, etc.

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja upheld Martin Amaewhule as the duly recognized Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, dismissing the appeal filed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

A three-member panel of the appellate court delivered a unanimous judgment, declaring the governor’s appeal lacked merit. The court firmly upheld the January 22 ruling of the Federal High Court, which was delivered by Justice James Omotosho. The lower court had nullified the 2024 Rivers State budget, tagged “Budget of Renewed Hope,” amounting to N800 million, citing its non-presentation before the members of the State Assembly as a breach of legal procedures.

In its ruling, the Court of Appeal admonished Governor Fubara for disregarding the rule of law, emphasizing that his actions in presenting the 2024 Rivers State Appropriation Bill to only four out of the 31 Assembly members constituted a significant violation of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Speaking to journalists after the judgment, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, hailed the decision as a “well-considered judgment” that affirmed the principles of justice and democratic governance.

The Nigerisn Defence Headquarters has challenged former militant leader Asari Dokubo to come to the battlefield and witness the capabilities of the military.

Dokubo had, on October 5, threatened to shoot down a military helicopter hovering around his residence, asserting that he could contain the Nigerian military.

In response to Dokubo’s claim that he could defeat the military, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Edward Buba, dared him to enter the battlefield and see whether he could indeed contend with the military.

Buba further vowed that the ex-militant leader would be neutralised if he showed up on the battlefield, and he called upon the relevant security agency to address the matter.

Buba emphasised that the military’s primary focus is on terrorists operating in various theatres of operation. END!!!!

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Military says it has neutralised 165, arrested 238 terrorists and also arrested 35 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 188 kidnapped hostages.

Director Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General Edward Buba who made the disclosure during a biweekly press briefing explained that the armed forces has intensified its war efforts, through mobilization of lethal forces and air strikes on terrorists, as according to him, troops also understand the importance of momentum and are therefore taking the fight to the terrorist.

General Buba noted that the military operations have destroyed a substantial part of the combat capacity of the terror groups and their leadership, as the notorious terrorist commander in Jigawa State known as Mai Hijabi, was eliminated from the battlefied during the week.

H explained that troops recovered 153 assorted weapons and 2,182 assorted ammunition. The breakdown as follows: 81 AK47 rifles, 23 fabricated rifles, 27 dane guns, 13 pump action guns, 5 locally made pistols, 3 revolver pistols, 30 AK47 magazines and one bayonet.
