The South African Football Association (SAFA) wishes to congratulate the South African football clubs that are continuing to fly the country’s flag high on the international stage.
Orlando Pirates FC and Mamelodi Sundowns FC are in the quarterfinal stage of the CAF Champions League, while Stellenbosch FC are through to the knockout stage of the CAF Confederations Cup. This progress augurs well for South African football and our national teams.
The year began on a positive note after the South African U17 Women’s National Team, Bantwana, beat Gabon 21-2 on aggregate on Saturday to qualify for the second round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. South Africa went into the second leg match leading 12-1 from the away leg in Gabon. Bantwana won the second leg 9-1 after conceding one goal.
Following the December break, SAFA is continuing with the business of football and will host a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Johannesburg this week.
SAFA will once again be looking forward to another engaging gathering where the NEC members will discuss several matters robustly and exchange ideas as has been the case in the past.
“We are happy to be back and starting the year on a positive footing. We are also thrilled to see our teams doing so well internationally and wish them all the best. This week we will turn our attention to the SAFA NEC Meeting following the December postponement,” SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao said.
