Atalanta continued their winning streak on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Venezia in Serie A, thanks to the return of Ademola Lookman to the starting lineup.
After three games, the defending UEFA Europa League champions have triumphed.
Before the AFCON 2025 qualifiers with the Mediterranean Knights, Lookman and his Super Eagles teammates were taken captive by Libyan authorities for more than ten hours at a remote airport. It was an international break to forget.
Gian Piero Gasperini, the head coach of Atalanta, chose Lookman in his starting lineup despite the ordeal, better removing him before the second half began.
Mario Pasalic and Mateo Retegui’s goals in either half of the match against Venezia guaranteed Atalanta’s victory.
Three minutes into the second half, Retegui extended the lead after Pasalic had opened the score in the seventh minute.
Atalanta is now six points behind league leaders Napoli in sixth place with 13 points.
In five league games this season, Lookman has two goals and two assists.
