Angola have sealed their place in the semifinals of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations | COSAFA Qualifier after a 1-0 victory over Mozambique in their Group A clash in Johannesburg on Sunday.
The Angolans came out on top in the Lusophone derby after a lone second-half strike from Jose Baptiste handed them the three points and top spot in the pool keeps them on track to qualify for the continental finals next year, with the two finalists in Johannesburg advancing to the African stage, where they will in turn hope to earn a place in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
Malawi and Lesotho have been eliminated despite the latter winning 3-2 in a five-goal thriller in the other match in Group A.
Third-placed Lesotho lost two games against Angola and Mozambique but redeemed themselves against Malawi where they collected three points.
Having drawn two games against Angola and Mozambique, Malawi are dumped out of the competition after losing to Lesotho and have only garnered two points to finish bottom of Group A.
