Newly appointed Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has revealed talks with his compatriot José Mourinho.
Amorim shared that the former United coach, sent him a message of congratulations.
Despite their shared heritage, Amorim distanced himself from comparisons to Mourinho’s “Special One” legacy.
Speaking to the media, Amorim said, “He sent me a message. He said, ‘Welcome to the club, that it’s a big club,’ and in that he is correct.
“But a lot of things change. We are in a different building now. I am a different guy, and I hope to teach something to my players.
“The club is still big, it is still the best in England, and we want to win.”
Amorim, known for his successful stint at Sporting CP, plans to implement his preferred 3-4-3 formation despite the challenges of transitioning midseason.
With United sitting 13th in the Premier League table, he acknowledged the pressing need for improvements.
“It is a different way of playing, and we are changing in the middle of the season,” Amorim explained.
“I think we lose the ball too often, we have to be better at running back, and we must improve on the small details. In the small things, I think I can help a lot.”
Amorim’s debut as Manchester United manager will be against Ipswich Town on Sunday, following his first week of training with the squad.
