Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has once again turned to 16-year-old defender Godwill Kukonki as the team faces defensive shortages.
This comes ahead of their clash with Arsenal at the Emirates on Wednesday.
Kukonki, who has recently been integrated into the first-team squad, is set to provide cover with Lisandro Martinez suspended and Luke Shaw sidelined due to a muscular injury.
Shaw’s absence, confirmed through an emotional Instagram post, adds to United’s defensive challenges. The England international wrote:
“This has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated but promise to come back better soon to help this club.”
Kukonki’s inclusion is Amorim’s willingness to trust young talent as he finds a way around an injury-hit squad.
The match against Arsenal is a major test for Amorim, who is aiming to stabilize United after a tough start to the season.
