Victor Boniface will stay at Bayer Leverkusen, according to coach Xabi Alonso.
The Nigerian striker was pulled out of their Champions League match against Sparta Prague due to speculations that he was moving to Saudi Arabia.
Following suggestions in German media that he was connected to a trade to Saudi club Al-Nassr, Boniface made his injury comeback on Saturday but was benched for Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw with RB Leipzig.
The Spanish team has again won the Deloitte Football Money League, making them the highest-earning club in the world.
Before Leverkusen’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Czech team Sparta Prague on Wednesday, he was then excluded from training.
“He will train again tomorrow. I believe he is staying with us,” Alonso told reporters after that win.
“So I have to say that I am satisfied, I am happy. He is comfortable here, so I don’t believe that this is a big stress for him.”
In 15 games across all competitions, the 24-year-old has eight goals to his credit.
He finished as Leverkusen’s top scorer with 14 goals in 23 league games last season and was instrumental in winning the team’s first Bundesliga championship.
Jhon Duran of Aston Villa may be able to join Al-Nassr if Boniface stays at Leverkusen.
The Saudi team, who are trying to strengthen a frontline that already includes Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo, is reportedly interested in the Colombian forward.
