Orlando Pirates of South Africa defeated Al Ahly of Egypt 2-1 at Cairo Stadium on Saturday, securing the top spot in Group C of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
In the 53rd minute, Relebohile Mofokeng took advantage of defensive lapses to break the impasse.
Al Ahly leveled in the 69th minute through Hussein El Shahat, who masterfully lobbed Orlando’s keeper.
But in the 83rd minute, Gilberto’s late goal gave the visitors the victory.
Rami Rabia’s goal that was disallowed after Al Ahly’s opportunities to equalise the score left them dissatisfied.
Orlando dominated the group with 14 points, while Al Ahly, under the leadership of Marcel Koller, advanced as group runners-up with 10 points despite the defeat.
