On Tuesday night, at the Cairo International Stadium, Al Ahly defeated Stade d’Abidjan 4-2 in the CAF Champions League Group C encounter.
With the victory, the Egyptian champions began their continental championship defence. On December 7, they will fly to South Africa to play the Orlando Pirates in their second Group C match.
However, after giving up four goals in Egypt, the Ivorian champions were left to nurse their wounds. They will have another Group C match on December 7 against CR Belouizdad of Algeria.
Mahmoud Kahraba scored to give Al Ahly the lead after Mohamed Magdy set him up, and the hosts broke the stalemate in just 14 minutes.
When Magdy scored in the 21st minute to give Al Ahly a 2-0 lead, the provider turned into the goal scorer.
But after giving up for the fourth time that evening, Abidjan kept attacking.
With Mohamed Niampa providing the assist, Roger Assale cut the deficit with a goal in the 55th minute, but Al Ahly held on to defeat Abidjan 4–2.
