The Honourable Minister of Sports Development has reiterated that the government is taking decisive measures to address the recent challenges faced by the Super Eagles during their international engagement in Libya.
The Minister stressed that this administration is committed to safeguarding the interests of Nigeria’s athletes and ensuring that such incidents do not repeat themselves.
This was disclosed in a statement by Enoh’s spokesperson, Diana Mary Nsan, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the matter, the Sports Minister said, “The Federal Government is fully aware of the situation that unfolded with our Super Eagles in Libya.
‘”We want to assure Nigerians that we are not taking this matter lightly. The welfare and security of our athletes are paramount, and every necessary step will be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.”
The Minister further emphasized the FG’s commitment to the development and success of Nigerian sports, ensuring that the country’s international representation remains a priority.
“We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to make sure that our athletes are adequately supported, and we will take immediate corrective action where necessary,” the Minister added.
The ordeal, which raised concerns both at home and abroad, has been met with swift action from the government.
An investigative committee has been set up to look into the incident and discussions are ongoing with relevant sports authorities and foreign officials to ensure the Super Eagles’ continued safety and comfort during international outings.
