Following the Federal High Court Abuja judgement which affirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, members of the party loyal to the faction went into jubilation on Tuesday in Abia State.
This is even as the Abure faction has said that it has sold forms and held primaries for November 2 local government polls.
But the Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti-led LP that is loyal to Governor Alex Otti and Mr Peter Obi has also concluded its own primaries which it said is the authentic.
Finding by DAILY POST showed that factional chairmanship aspirants emerged in many LGAs, while some party faithful protested in Aba North last week over alleged imposition of a candidate.
Also speaking to ABN TV on Tuesday, the former Chairman of LP in Abia, Mr Ceekay Igara defended the sale of his own faction’s forms, claiming that any nomination form not issued by the Abure structure is not genuine.
“We also sold forms, conducted primaries and we are waiting for the National Executive Council of the party to give approval and then we submit to ABSIEC”, said Igara who also quoted Article 27 paragraph 6 and 8 of the party’s documents.
He said he had no regrets supporting Governor Alex Otti during the 2023 guber polls.
However, the Chairman of LP Caretaker Committee, Nenadi Usman has vowed that her committee will appeal the Abuja High Court judgement.
Usman also promised that her committee will sustain reconciliation in the party.
