The one month industrial action embarked upon by members of the Abia State chapter of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, has been suspended by the union.
The union also directed its members to return to duty.
The suspension followed the activation of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, it signed with the Abia State government last week.
Confirming the suspension of the strike through a statement on Thursday, the Chairman of JUSUN in Abia, Chinedu Ezeh and Secretary, Chibueze Nwachukwu, said the decision represented a milestone in union’s struggle for financial autonomy and independence of the judiciary.
The JUSUN leadership thanked Governor Alex Otti for his commitment to the welfare of judiciary workers in the state and appreciated the Abia State Chief Judge, Justice Lilian Abai, NBA and members of the pubic for their understanding and support while the strike and negotiations lasted.
The JUSUN leaders in the statement, expressed the hope that “other issues agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding would be implemented accordingly”.
