The Senate has announced Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu (APC-Abia) and Sen. Babangida Hussaini (APC-Jigawa) as Chairmen of Senate Committees on the South-East Development Commission and North-West Development Commission, respectively.
Also named as Vice Chairmen of the committees were Sen. Mohammed Dandutse (APC-Katsina), North-West Development Commission, and Sen. Ken Eze (APC-Ebonyi), South East Development Commission.
The Senate also appointed Sen. Titus Zam (APC-Benue), who was formerly chairman, the Committee on Rules and Business, as Chairman of the Committee on North Central Development Commission.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio made the announcements at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday.
Akpabio also announced Sen. Abudl Ningi (PDP-Bauchi) as new Chairman of, the Committee on Sports Development, while Sen. Victor Umeh (LP -Anambra), who was formerly chairman of the Committee on Diaspora, was appointed Chairman of the Committee on National Population and Identity.
Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi), formerly chairman of the local content committee, was announced as the new Chairman of the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
Sen. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas (APC-Delta) was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Local Content.
Akpabio equally named Sen. Isa Jubril (APC-Kogi) as Deputy Chairman on Rules and Business.
He said the new chairman for the Rules and Business Committee, who should be a versatile lawmaker and familiar with rules of the Senate, would be named in due course.
The Senate thereafter adjourned plenary to Wednesday after paying tribute and observing a minute silence in honour of Adewumi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, who died on Jan.15
