The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of eight person in Jimlari community of Lau local government council of the state.
Apart from the abduction, one resident was also confirmed killed in the incident which occurred last night in the community.
The attackers, who DAILY POST, learned were armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the community late at night, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents.
Sources from the community who spoke with our reporter, said many were forced to flee for safety as the assailants operated freely.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Abdullahi Usman, said security forces, including the police, military, and other agencies have been deployed to the area.
Though no arrests have been made, he assured that efforts were underway to track down the perpetrators and bring them to book.
DAILY POST gathered that most of the abducted victims are children aged seven, ten and twelve years
The community said they were caught off guard and that the kidnappers “were shooting indiscriminately, and because of their sophisticated weapons, we couldn’t mobilize to confront them.”
In the wake of the attack, locals have called on the state government to take urgent measures to prevent future incidents.
They also urged authorities to immediately increase security presence in the area by as well strengthen collaboration with law enforcement agencies to secure the release of the kidnapped victims.
