The club had initially hoped for a turnaround under Julien Stéphan, and later Sampaoli, but both managerial choices failed to deliver results. With relegation fears looming, Rennes opted for a fresh approach by bringing in Beye, who has signed a contract until the end of the season, with a potential one-year extension.
At 47 years old, Beye is finally getting his chance at the top level after an impressive stint at Red Star, where he led the Parisian club to Ligue 2 promotion. Despite being linked with clubs like Nantes, Metz, Reims, Lens, Saint-Étienne, and Lyon, he had to wait for the right opportunity.
