Arsenal has been accused of losing control of their players when they swarmed referee Michale Oliver following Saturday’s contentious dismissal of Myles Lewis-Skelly during their 1-0 Premier League away victory against Wovlerhampton Wanderers.
The decision, which was reversed earlier this week after an appeal, was contested by Arsenal players.
The video assistant referee maintained Oliver’s decision to remove Lewis-Skelly for tripping Matt Doherty on the edge of the Wolves box prior to halftime.
An independent commission reversed the red card and lifted his three-match suspension when Arsenal produced video footage of the incident as proof.
“The referee had made an obvious error in sending off Lewis-Skelly for the challenge that he had made,” the independent commission said.
Referee Oliver received threats and abuse as a result of the fans’ and commentators’ criticism of his call, which led to a police investigation.
According to the FA, Arsenal has until Monday to respond.
