Mojisola Meranda has formally occupied the office of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Meranda had emerged Speaker of the Assembly following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.
Lawmakers of the Assembly had impeached Obasa on January 13, 2025 over alleged gross misconduct, financial misappropriation and abuse of office.
Obasa was impeached while he was away in the United States.
Upon his return on Saturday, Obasa faulted his impeachment, saying the lawmakers never followed due process.
He maintained that he remained the Speaker because he was not impeached.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, GAC, has described Obasa’s removal as a family affair.
GAC’s Secretary, Mutiu Are called for calm over the crisis in the Assembly, stressing that it should be resolved the ‘family way’.
