The Copperbelt Football Association of Zambia chairperson Patrick Ndhlovu has officially handed over the 300 footballs to Copperbelt Education authorities for handover to primary schools as part of the tripartite agreement among FAZ, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts.
FAZ secured 12, 000 footballs under the FIFA for Schools Project that targets primary schools across the country. The Ministry of Education was represented by a Nyondo, who received the footballs while Kitwe District Education Board Secretary Christopher Nyungila, who is former Nkana vice president was part of the event.
“Today marks a very special and important day where the Football Associations of Zambia in collaboration with the Ministry of Education on the Copperbelt is giving out the balls to some of the primary school to kick start the grassroots developmental leagues in all the schools on the Copperbelt and the nation at large,” said Ndhlovu.
“This initiative has been supported by FIFA who had given 12,000 balls to support grassroots football in schools.
“Now because of decentralization which has been brought about by the FAZ president Andrew Kamanga and his executive, this will see all the primary schools and secondary start school football leagues.”
Ndhlovu was flanked by his deputy Gabriel Kaunda, youth representative Bruce Mubanga, women representative Esther Bwalya and committee member Chishimba Kambwili. The government expressed happiness that the project had taken off and would provide a relaunch of the glory days where schools football thrived.
All the 10 provinces have received footballs under the FIFA project as part of FAZ’s long term drive to develop football from the grassroots.
