Amid this speculation, Xabi Alonso, the current Bayer Leverkusen coach, has emerged as the favorite to succeed Ancelotti. The Spaniard, who enjoyed a successful playing career with Los Blancos, has impressed with his achievements in the Bundesliga and is considered a prime candidate to take over at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Speaking ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League clash against Atlético Madrid, Alonso addressed the growing rumors. The match against Atlético is very important, and my mind is entirely on that.” Reflecting on his time as a player at Real, Alonso added, “The affection remains, and this bond is unforgettable. Those were intense years, and though it was difficult to achieve what we wanted, the relationship with the club stays strong.”
