In Tanzania on Saturday, MC Alger drew goalless with Young Africans to guarantee their spot in the quarterfinals of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
Their professional performance earned them second place in Group A with nine points, and the Algerian team only needed one more point to join Al Hilal, who were already qualified, in the knockout stages.
Despite having a strong first group stage campaign, the Tanzanian champions finished third on eight points, ending Young Africans’ hopes of advancement.
Both North African teams advance from Group A as a result of the outcome, with TP Mazembe coming last despite defeating Al Hilal handily in the other game.
