The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is taking significant steps to elevate women’s football on the continent. Meskerem Tadesse Goshime, head of CAF’s women’s football department, recently shared insights into their ongoing efforts and future goals.
Key initiatives include the implementation of club licensing systems and the creation of the Women’s Champions League in 2021, both aimed at boosting the sport’s visibility and encouraging more girls and women to participate actively in football.
Tadesse Goshime emphasized the importance of increasing female representation in administrative and coaching roles, supported by numerous training programs for women coaches.
Highlighting CAF’s ambitious targets, she stated: “We want our women’s teams to reach the semi-finals and finals of international tournaments.” With these strategies, CAF aspires to establish African women’s football as a dominant force on the global stage.
