Emerging Tanzanian talent, Winfrida Gerald shone bright in the opening day of the as a CAF U-17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) Tanzania 2025 in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, 7 January.
The inaugural edition of the women’s youth competition featuring eight women’s clubs under the age of 17 is officially underway in Dar es Salaam for the CECAFA Zone, and will see the future African women’s stars compete between 07 – 18 January 2025.
JKT Queens officially opened the tournament with a resounding 3-0 win over Kenya Academy of Sport (KAS) on Tuesday. It was the Winfrida Gerald show on the afternoon, with the talented forward scoring a brace along with Janeth Matulanga’s solitary strike that saw the Kenyans left with no response.
Gerald’s impressive form comes as no surprise with the youngster breaking into the continental scene at the 2023 CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals in South African three years ago.
Quick and tricky on the ball, Gerald was also one of the stand-out performers at the recent CAF Women’s Champions League with JKT Queens. The CAF U-17 GIFT Tournament continues in Dar es Salaam with all matches live on CAF’s Official YouTube Channel, CAF TV.
