Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has urged the Black Galaxies to approach their return leg against Nigeria with caution and determination. Speaking ahead of thecrucial match, Agyemang-Badu highlighted the challenges posed by the Nigerian side and reflected on the first-leg performance.
“From the result, it was a true reflection of the game. We didn’t create any decent chances, and they even hit the goalpost. The second half saw some improvement when we brought in Afriyie, Antwi, and others. The game changed a bit, and we pressed them high, but unfortunately, we couldn’t score,” he noted.
Agyemang-Badu recalled a previous encounter where Ghana defied the odds to secure qualification against Nigeria for the world cup. “I pray that history repeats itself like when we played in Kumasi. Everyone thought it was over, but we went there, played 1-1, and qualified. However, this time is different. Nigeria showed they were very comfortable on the ball, possessed it well, and posed a constant threat.”
Despite acknowledging the strengths of the Nigerian team, Agyemang-Badu expressed optimism about Ghana’s chances. “I am very positive that we will right our wrongs and go there to prove ourselves. But we should be very careful not to go and defend. This is a decisive game, and if we lose, we are out. We cannot afford to miss out on another tournament. Missing AFCON was bad enough, and failing to qualify for CHAN would be disastrous.”
He concluded with a rallying call to the team and supporters. “We will support them and pray for them. The team must give their all and secure victory in the return leg.”
