URA continued their gradual climb up the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table after edging Lugazi 1-0 at Nakivubo as matchday 13 continued on Thursday.
Ivan Ahimbisibwe scored the game’s only goal for the Tax Collectors to move within six points of leaders NEC, who top the standings on 27 points. The result saw URA leapfrog Express into fourth place with 21 points after 13 games.
Ahimbisibwe’s winner arrived on 23 minutes when Joseph Ssemujju beat three opponents on the break before releasing the latter. The striker had ample time to control the ball and shoot low across goalkeeper Fahad Emuran in the Lugazi goal.
The defeat ended Lugazi’s eight-game unbeaten run but keeps them in 12th with 13 points, just four above the relegation zone. Elsewhere in Kavumba, Ivan Asaba scored in either half as Maroons condemned hosts Police to their first home defeat this season.
It was, however, the hosts who took the lead through Isaac Ogwang on six minutes but Asaba fired back in a double to hand Maroon three points on the road. Asaba’s first goal came off a penalty on 24 minutes after he was fouled by Rayn Kizito. He later completed his brace nine minutes into the second half.
The result sees the two teams exchange places with Maroons sixth on 19 points and Police right below them on 17 marks.
