The Theatre Command of the Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in the North East has debunked allegations by the Amnesty International, (AI) that over 10,000 People have died in Military custody since the beginning of Boko Haram insurgency in North-East Nigeria.
Country Director for AI, Isa Sanusi recently announced that the organisation has filed a case at the International Court of Justice at The Hague alleging that over 10,000 people have died in military custody since the war on insurgency in North-East Nigeria.
In response to the allegation, the Defence Headquarters took journalists on a tour across its theatres of operations namely; Operation Hadin Kai in North East, Operation Hadarin Daji in North West, Operation Safe Heaven in South South and Operation Udoka in South East respectively.
During a tour by our Correspondent, Raphael Jov to the Headquarters of Joint Task Force (JTF) of the Operation Hadin Kai in the North East to get a first hand information in order to ascertain the true picture of the weighty allegation by the Amnesty International, the commander of the theatre, Major General Shuaibu Waidi said all the allegations were false. He said that the military does not have the capacity to accommodate up to the alleged number of detainees.

On the allegation on Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) funding insurgency in the North East, the Chief J9-Incharge of Civil -Military Cooperation in the theatre, Navy Captain Muhammed Abdullahi confirmed that since his assumption of office in the last 9 months, there has not been any form of NGOs involvement in the ongoing insurgency activities.
Also speaking on the allegation of Armed Forces rehabilitating Boko Haram members, Navy Maritime Component, Operation Hadin Kai, Commodore Paul Nimmyel said the Military does not rehabilitate but rather creates an enabling environment due to the ongoing insurgency in the State.
There was an appeal to citizens by the Nigerian Military to always confide in them.
