StarTimes Uganda Premier League table toppers, NEC, missed an opportunity to stretch the lead at the summit after being held 1-1 by BUL at Najjembe on Wednesday.
The leaders went ahead on 37 minutes when Cromwell Rwothomio headed home Gaddafi Wahab’s free kick but the hosts levelled matters through Nicholas Mwere in the 90th minute to rescue a point. Victory would have sent NEC four points clear at the top, but they will now settle for only a two-point lead at 27.
Vipers SC, who travel to Mbale Heroes on Friday, could dislodge NEC from the top with victory. The Venoms have 25 points. On their part, BUL came into this game buoyed by their 1-1 draw away to Vipers last week. This will also be seen as progress as it is yet another crucial point earned against a title contender. BUL’s seventh draw and 16th point has them in 10th place after 13 matches.
Elsewhere, Noordin Bunjo was the architect as Soltilo Bright Stars picked up only their second win of the season when they beat UPDF 2-1 in Kavumba. Bunjo set up Warren Buule and Ashiraf Mulindi quickfire goals in the 30th and 32nd minutes before Samuel Ssekamatte got UPDF’s consolation via a penalty on the stroke of half time.
Bright Stars remain bottom of the 16-team league table despite the win. They have nine points from 13 matches. The UPDF are seventh on 17 points. Matchday 13 continues on Thursday.
