Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has claimed the 2024 FIFA Puskás Award for his breathtaking overhead kick against Everton.
The strike edged out Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu’s remarkable flying backheel for Trabzonspor against Konyaspor.
The award was presented during the FIFA Best Player of the Year ceremony in Doha, Qatar
Garnacho’s spectacular effort outshone the contributions of nine other nominees, including Federico Dimarco, Jaden Philogene, Mohammed Kudus, Hassan Al Haydos, and Yassine Benzia.
Garnacho’s goal, which came in a Premier League match at Goodison Park in November 2023, was a moment of magic.
The 20-year-old connected with a lofted cross from Diogo Dalot, executing a perfectly timed overhead kick that left Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford helpless.
Onuachu, meanwhile, had earned his nomination for a sensational backheel goal in Trabzonspor’s clash with Konyaspor.
With the game locked late on, the towering forward showed extraordinary skill with perfect timing, meeting a cross from Enis Destan with a flying backheel to seal victory for his team.
While Garnacho continues to thrive at Manchester United, Onuachu has struggled for form since returning to Southampton following his loan spell.
The Nigerian forward has yet to register a goal or assist in six Premier League appearances this season.
