The Ghana Premier League delivered another exciting weekend of football, marked by crucial victories, resilient performances, and unfortunate instances of hooliganism.
Asante Kotoko finally ended their five-game winless streak with an impressive 2-0 victory over Aduana FC in Dormaa. Goals from Patrick Asiedu and Albert Amoah secured the much-needed three points, easing pressure on head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum. However, the match was marred by incidents of hooliganism. Frustrated Aduana fans reportedly clashed with match officials, leading to a delay in the second half. The Ghana FA has promised swift action to address the issue.
In another premier league game, Accra Hearts of Oak extended their unbeaten run to four games following a 1-1 draw against Nsoatreman FC. Nsoatreman stunned the Phobians with an early goal, but Salim Adams’ freekick equalizer ensured Hearts left with a point. While the unbeaten streak is commendable, the Phobians’ lack of cutting edge in attack continues to raise concerns among fans.
Dreams FC’s fell 1-0 at home to Karela United. A solitary goal handed Karela a vital win.
Nations FC and Samartex Suffer Narrow Defeats
Berekum Chelsea edged Nations FC 1-0 in a tightly contested game, at the Dr kwame kyei’s stadium after a goal from Steve Amankona condemned the home team to defeat.
Meanwhile, Basake Holy Stars stunned Samartex with a lone goal, further complicating Samartex’s inconsistent campaign. Whilst at that, Medeama Finds Form Against Young Apostles
Medeama SC continued with their winning streak in style, securing a 2-0 away win over Young Apostles.
In Ho, Heart of Lions delivered the most dominant performance of the weekend, dismantling Legon Cities 3-0 in Ho. The win moves Lions to third place. A goal and assist from former Hearts of Oak forward, Obeng Jnr helped Heart of Lions to secure all three points.
Bechem United edged Accra Lions 1-0 in a tense encounter. As it stands, Accra Lions are in the relegation zone. Elsewhere, Bibiani Goldstars comfortably dispatched Vision FC 2-0, which moved them back to the top of the league and moved Vision to the relegation zone.
The weekend results tighten the race at both ends of the table. Kotoko’s win signals a possible resurgence, while Hearts continue their steady rise. At the bottom, teams like Vision Fc and Accra Lions have their work cut out to avoid the drop.
The Ghana Premier League is heating up, but the league’s governing body must address the growing concerns about fan violence to maintain the competition’s integrity.
