Manchester United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana has openly appealed to incoming manager Ruben Amorim to keep Ruud van Nistelrooy as part of his coaching staff after Van Nistelrooy extended his unbeaten run as interim manager. This plea follows United’s 2-0 victory over PAOK in the Europa League, a win that highlighted the team’s improved form under the guidance of Van Nistelrooy.
United recently appointed Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s successor, with the Portuguese coach set to officially take the reins on November 11. However, Onana has made it clear that the players have quickly warmed to Van Nistelrooy’s coaching approach and would be thrilled to see him stay at Old Trafford in some capacity.
“100 percent. He is a very good guy and a very good coach,” Onana shared after the game. “He has so much experience, and he has done amazing since he has been here. We’ve had him for a few days as head coach, and the players are happy, but it’s not something we can decide. The club made a decision [to hire Ruben Amorim], and we have to accept that because they have the final decision.”
Van Nistelrooy, a United legend and former striker, has brought a fresh energy to the team, guiding them through a steady unbeaten run since stepping in temporarily. His tactical insights and rapport with the players have clearly left a strong impression on the squad, prompting Onana’s heartfelt endorsement.
With Amorim officially taking charge soon, United fans may yet see an intriguing partnership if Van Nistelrooy remains a part of the coaching setup. This continuity could provide a boost as Amorim seeks to stabilize the club’s performances and restore their competitive edge.
