Manchester United informed Erik ten Hag this Monday morning that he was no longer the coach of the Red Devils. The Dutch coach is paying for another failed start to the season.
One defeat too many for Erik ten Hag. By losing, on a controversial penalty whistled at the end of the match after contact between Ings and De Ligt, Manchester United caused the fall of its Dutch coach. According to information from The Athletic, the Mancunian leaders decided to whistle the end of the recess and informed the Dutch coach this Monday morning that his adventure was over. Ten Hag nevertheless hoped to still have the chance to get things back on track, during the next two home matches against Leicester and Chelsea.
Manchester United confirmed the information a few minutes later. “Erik ten Hag has left his position as coach of the Manchester United men’s first team. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and has led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching staff, while a permanent head coach is recruited.”
