BREAKING: Nyamweya left lonely as FKF elections running mate Patriciah Mutheu resigns

by admin

Sam Nyamweya’s Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Presidential bid suffered a blow after his running mate Patriciah Mutheu and CEO Peter Karanja tendered their resignation just a few days before the eagerly awaited exercise.

In a statement obtained by Africa Top Sports, Mutheu, who formerly worked as CEO for FKF Premier League side Mathare United cited lack of sufficient funs to run a credible and successful campaign for the decision to step down.

In the letter dubbed “resignation from the FKF elections team’, Mutheu said: “After having assessed the situation and realised that there are not sufficient funds to run a credible and successful campaign the undersigned, Patriciah Mutheu and Peter Karanja, officially resigned from the campaign team for the candidacy of Sam Nyamweya for the FKF Presidency.

“However, we still fully strongly support all the innovative and timely proposals in the 2025-28 STRATEGIC PLAN FOR REVIVING, TRANSFORMING AND UNITING KENYAN FOOTBALL, especially on these key issues:

  1. Create strong national and county leagues
  2. Build strong and competitive national teams
  3. Treat male and female teams/leagues equally
  4. Put AFCON 2027 in experienced and safe hands
  5. Form a key partnership with the Kenya Golf Union
  6. Help clubs become financially viable and sustainable
  7. Ensure autonomy, integrity and competence of referees
  8. Strengthen national coaches, players and fans associations
  9. Adopt zero-tolerance policies against bribery and corruption
  10. Penalise rigorously all match-fixing, doping and age-cheating
  11. Recruit, train and hand over to the NextGen of football leaders
