In their second game at the 2024 WAFU Zone B qualifiers in Togo on Thursday, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles overcame a goal deficit to defeat Cote d’Ivoire 2-1.
Coming off a 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso in their opening match, the Flying Eagles needed an outright victory to get their campaign back on track, and goals from Clinton Jephta and Kparobo Arierhi secured the victory for the WAFU Zone B champions.
The team will now play Niger Republic in Sunday’s semi-final.
The Flying Eagles defeated Benin Republic 3-1 in the final to win the 2022 WAFU Zone B qualifiers, which was held in Niger Republic.
The WAFU Zone B qualifiers will serve as the team as the teams that will qualify for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The U-20 AFCON host has not yet been determined.
The 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile will be open to the semi-finalists of the AFCON 2025.
