Thierry Henry Backs Man City’s Rodri for 2024 Ballon d’Or Over Vinicius Junior

by admin

Former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry has weighed in on the 2024 Ballon d’Or race, expressing his belief that Manchester City midfielder Rodri should win the award over Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior.

When asked about his preference for the prestigious award, Henry emphasized the importance of recognizing midfielders, praising Rodri’s contributions at both club and international levels. “Rodri, because I watched Xavi and Andres Iniesta when they were performing,” Henry explained. “People forget about the midfielders and what they do—they’re the heart of the team, and he was the heart of Man City. I know they didn’t win the Champions League, but he won the Euros.”

Henry acknowledged Vinicius Jr.’s impressive performances but pointed out that the Brazilian winger fell short at the Copa America. “Vinicius Jr. didn’t perform at the Copa America,” Henry noted. However, he didn’t discount Vinicius’ talent, adding, “But is he a worthy winner? Yes. He’s outstanding. I keep on saying, for me, right now, as a forward, the best in the world, so he deserves it.”

Rodri has been a vital part of Manchester City’s success, playing a crucial role in their domestic dominance and international competitions. Meanwhile, Vinicius has continued to shine for Real Madrid, consistently delivering standout performances and solidifying his place among the world’s top forwards.

Henry’s comments underscore a broader debate in the football community about the recognition of midfielders in awards like the Ballon d’Or. While forwards often steal the spotlight, Henry’s stance serves as a reminder of the influence and value of midfielders like Rodri, who are pivotal to their teams’ success.
