Igor Tudor soon on the bench of a Ligue 1 club

Having left Olympique de Marseille in 2023, Igor Tudor could quickly return to the French Championship. A Ligue 1 club has ticked the Croatian manager’s name in its good books.

While he had rather convinced during his time at Olympique de Marseille by finishing in third place in Ligue 1 and notably eliminating PSG, in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. But after only one season in the Phocaean city, the Croatian decided to leave to join Lazio Rome and return to Serie A. A short-lived adventure since he ended his contract with the Roman club after only three months in the position, as the Serie A club had announced.

Today free of any contract, the 46-year-old manager could well return to Ligue 1. According to information from L’Équipe, Stade Rennais would be interested in him. Indeed, Frédéric Massara, sporting director of Stade Rennais since last June, would have checked the name of the ex-Marseillais in his good books. The Italian manager would greatly appreciate his profile to replace Julien Stéphan, who is still on an ejection seat, as we revealed.

Julien Stéphan still weakened

On Saturday, Stade Rennais and Julien Stéphan managed to avoid a crisis thanks to the equalizer in the last minutes of the summer recruit Jota on the Brest pitch (1-1). But this snatched draw would therefore be an additional reprieve for the ex-manager of Strasbourg and his future on the bench of the Breton club would therefore remain uncertain. In the Rennes enclosure of the Francis-Le Blé stadium, several supporters chanted his resignation at the final whistle, while Rennes is in 12th place in Ligue 1.

“We had to reorganize, bring another dynamic to the match. The substitutes helped, if I don’t start them for the moment, it’s because there are reasons, but I hope that this match will help with the integration of these profiles. In any case, this team is fighting, doesn’t want to give up and that’s good. We were at least rewarded for these efforts to bring back a point,” assured Julien Stéphan after the draw against Brest. But he will have to confirm again, because the threat of Igor Tudor hangs over him.
