In the wake of the devastating tanker fire in Majia town, Jigawa, which resulted in 105 fatalities, President Bola Tinubu has mobilised a high-level federal delegation to assess the situation and provide support.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, will head the team, which includes notable figures such as the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Alkali; and Corps Marshall of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Shehu Mohammed.

The delegation is set to visit the disaster site to evaluate the damage and meet with those injured in the local hospital.

In response to the tragedy, President Tinubu has ordered that emergency assistance, including medical supplies, food, and temporary housing, be provided to 50 victims currently undergoing treatment and others affected by the incident.

Expressing profound sorrow over the loss of life, the President, alongside the Vice President, extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families impacted by this calamity.

He offered prayers for comfort and strength to the bereaved while also wishing for the peaceful repose of those who perished.

In his commitment to enhancing public safety, President Tinubu has vowed to collaborate with state governments to conduct a thorough review of fuel transportation safety measures nationwide.

He has directed the FRSC to intensify nighttime travel protocols, including increased surveillance and stricter enforcement of existing safety regulations.

The President has emphasised that accountability will be enforced for any individuals or entities responsible for lapses in safety standards, reiterating the government’s determination to prevent future tragedies of this nature.
