The Kano State Government has said that no fewer than 632 suspects have been arraigned for vandalising public facilities and looting as the ongoing hunger protest continues in the state.
The spokesman for the state governor, Sanusi Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the arraignment of the suspects in a statement on Monday.
He explained that the 632 arraigned suspects were arrested for destroying public assets in parts of the city.
Tofa warned that the Kano State Government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order was non-negotiable, adding that those found guilty of vandalism would face the full wrath of the law.
He added that the state government planned to provide massive training programmes for youths in various trades to promote self-reliance and curtail their likelihood of being used to cause a breakdown of law and order.
The spokesman also announced that a special commission of inquiry would be set up to investigate those behind the killings and looting of public buildings in the state.
“The commission will ascertain the root causes of the killings and destruction of public buildings,” he said.
He explained that the protesters carrying Russian flags were not affiliated with the government, and urged the security agencies to unravel those behind them and their motives.
According to him, the genuine protesters in the state had submitted their grievances and requests to the government, which he said would be forwarded to President Bola Tinubu.
