’30 persons buried alive in Adamawa, Taraba collapsed mine’ – LG official

About 30 persons were buried alive in in a collapsed mining pit in a border community between Adamawa and Taraba states.

An update on the mining site accident obtained on Friday has it that the miners got shoved deep into the pit and were never seen again.

The accident, which occurred at an illegal mining site spanning Gashaka LGA of Taraba State and Toungo LGA of Adamawa State, was reported to have claimed 22 lives when the story broke on Thursday, November 7.

Giving an update on the incident, the Information Officer of Toungo Local Government, Umar Adamu, said no fewer than 30 people were buried alive.

Adamu added that none of the dead bodies could be brought out for proper burial.

He said Muslims in the community, believing that the deceased were most likely all Muslims, gathered at the site of the collapsed mine and offered Muslim prayers.
