Bafana Bafana midfielder Themba Zwane will undergo scans at Clinique Médicale SECUREX in Brazzaville on Wednesday to ascertain the extent of the injury he suffered during an away 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Tuesday night.
South African senior national team coach Hugo Broos was forced to make a substitution five minutes before the halftime break after Zwane suffered an injury and was replaced by Patrick Maswanganyi at Stade Alphonse Massamba-Debat de Brazzaville.
Dr Tshepo Molobi, the Bafana Bafana doctor, told www.safa.net that after the scans are completed, Zwane will be ready to travel with the rest of his teammates back to Johannesburg, South Africa.
“Our Chief Medical Officer at SAFA, Dr Thulani Ngwenya, has been in constant communication with Themba’s club Mamelodi Sundowns and has kept their medical team appraised every step of the way. Upon arrival back home in South Africa, all the necessary processes will be made available for Themba,” Dr Molobi said.
Bafana Bafana are still in Brazzaville and will return home later on Wednesday. Coach Broos’ side drew 1-1 with Congo after goals from Elias Mokwana in the 33rd minute and Congolese striker Andre Bassouamina just before the halftime break.
