South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan is travelling to Morocco to attend the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Final Draw.
The draw will be held in Rabat on Monday, 27 January 2025 where the 24 teams that have qualified will learn the identity of the sides they will be drawn against.
Bafana Bafana qualified for the tournament after finishing Group K undefeated and perched at the summit last year, and the SAFA President said coach Hugo Broos’ charges will be viewed as one of the strongest teams in the draw.
“We are looking forward to the draw on Monday. Our team is recognised as one of the most competitive sides on the continent and all eyes will be on the event,” he said.
“The growth and development of this team in the last few years has been amazing. After not qualifying in the past, coach Hugo Broos has established Bafana Bafana as one the best on the continent. After taking the team to the bronze medal at the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire last year, he qualified Bafana Bafana to the next tournament unbeaten and in the same year.
“The performance of the players can also be seen in the level of confidence they display in their clubs. We have a number of players who have established themselves on the international stage and are now household names on this continent.”
Bafana Bafana assistant coach Helman Mkhalele and team manager Vincent Tseka are also attending the draw and travelled to Rabat on Friday night.
According to CAF, the draw, to be attended by the 24 Nations that have qualified, will be conducted at 19h00 local time (18h00 GMT/ 20h00 Cairo time).
The draw provides the National Teams with the opportunity to assess the excellent match venues, training facilities and hotel infrastructure in Morocco.
The 24 teams will be placed into six pools each containing four sides. The top two teams in each group and the four best third-placed sides advance to the round of 16.
The AFCON will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
