WAFU U-20 Championship: Zubairu lauds Flying Eagles’ display against Niger Republic

by admin

Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu has eulogised the strong character of his players after they rallied to beat Niger Republic 3-1 in their semi-final clash at the WAFU B U-20 Championship.

The defending champions conceded after nine minutes.

A brace from Clinton Jephta and Olalekan Agagbe’s strike, however, gave Nigeria victory in the encounter.

The Flying Eagles will face Ghana’s Black Satellites in the final of the competition on Wednesday.

They have also secured a berth in the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations to be hosted by South Africa.

“I commend the boys, they showed real character to fight back and win the match, it was the same way they did against Cote d’Ivoire,” Zubairu said in his post-match reaction.

“We were disappointed when we lost to Burkina Faso in our opening game, but we have since bounced back to top reckoning.”
