Togo’s CHAN team delivered a solid performance as they defeated Benin 2-0 in the first leg of the preliminary qualifiers at the Stade de Kégué in Lome. From the opening whistle, the Togolese side showed resilience and tactical precision, setting the tone for a promising start in their quest for CHAN qualification.

The crowd didn’t have to wait long to witness the first goal, as Abalo from Asko de Kara made an early statement. In the 11th minute, he broke through Benin’s defense, finding the net with a well-placed shot that electrified the stadium and gave Togo a critical 1-0 lead. His quick reaction and clinical finish put Togo in control, with the home fans erupting in celebration.

The game saw both sides battle intensely through the midfield, with Benin pushing to equalize. However, Togo’s defense held firm, thwarting Benin’s attacks and maintaining their advantage as the game wore on.

In the closing moments of the match, Avotor from OTR sealed Togo’s victory. The left-winger, known for his speed and skill, slots home a late goal that not only extended Togo’s lead but also underscored their dominance. His finish left no room for Benin to mount a comeback, giving Togo a comfortable 2-0 margin to take into the second leg.

The victory puts Togo in a favorable position ahead of the return leg in Benin, scheduled for November 1, 2024. With a two-goal cushion, Togo will look to complete the job and secure their spot in the next round of the CHAN qualifiers.
