Adamawa Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has prayed for young men to be raised to emulate the virtues of the late Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina.
Speaking at his funeral service at the Dishon Dansanda Square on Tuesday in Guyuk, Farauta said, “Our prayer is that God will raise young men who would wear the shoes of the deceased: fearless and brave leaders.”
Farauta said the late senator was a true democrat and mentor that young people should emulate as they join politics.
The Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, AVM Dickson Dilmon (Rtd), AVM Frama Batna and former deputy governors of Gombe State, Dr John La’azarus Yoriyo and Jackson Ta’anda, were among those who attended the burial ceremony.
Senators Abubakar Mu’Allahyidi and Ahmad Barata were also in attendance.
Zwingina, who died on October 3, 2024, was born on August 1, 1954 at Falu, a rural community in the Guyuk local government area.
He came to national limelight in 1987 when he was appointed the director of Mass Mobilization for Social Justice and Economic Recovery, MAMSER, a famous programme of the Ibrahim Babangida government.
His next major role was as Director General of MKO Abiola Campaign Organization towards the presidential election of June 12, 1993.
Zwingina was elected Senator for the Adamawa South constituency at the beginning of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, running on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He won re-election in 2003 and spent a further four years in the Senate.
His contemporaries during the formation of PDP include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Late Wilberforce Bafte Juta, Chief Joel H. Madaki, Late Solomon Lar among others, but he was a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, by the time he died on October 3, two months after his 70th birthday.
