EPL: Why John Stones’ winner against Wolves was not cancelled – Guardiola

by admin

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has said that John Stones’ late winner against Wolves on Sunday was not chalked off because there was no infringement on goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Jorgen Strand Larsen had given the hosts the lead, before Josko Gvardiol drew City level before the break.

In the last minute of the game, Stones headed past Sa, but the goal was subjected to a VAR check.

However, the goal was eventually awarded after referee Chris Kavanagh deemed that Bernado Silva did not impede Sa.

Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport after the game, said: “Of course I didn’t understand it.

“Linesman, I don’t know the reason why he did it. But Bernardo [Silva] isn’t disturbing the position. It was difficult in the first moment.

“Today in modern football they starve the keeper. In the moment what happened [Jose] Sa had the perfect vision.

“The taker from Phil [Foden] and the header [by John Stones] were magnificent.”
