Rúben Amorim Draws Interest from Manchester Rivals as Successor to Guardiola or Ten Hag

by admin

Sporting CP manager Rúben Amorim has emerged as one of the most sought-after young coaches in European football, with both Manchester United and Manchester City eyeing him as a potential managerial option. While City see the 39-year-old as a future successor to Pep Guardiola, Manchester United are making more urgent inquiries to ensure they are prepared in case Erik ten Hag’s tenure takes a downturn.

Sources indicate that United have already reached out to Amorim’s camp to explore his availability and assess his interest in managing at Old Trafford. While the Red Devils remain publicly committed to Ten Hag, recent struggles have forced the club to be proactive in monitoring alternative options. United’s current stance is to back the Dutchman, but they are also mindful of long-term planning as the pressure mounts.

Amorim, who has transformed Sporting CP into title challengers in Portugal, is in no hurry to leave his post mid-season. The Portuguese manager harbors significant ambitions with Sporting and has ruled out any winter departure, focusing on domestic and European objectives. However, his contract, which runs until 2026, includes a release clause that becomes active next summer, making him an attainable target for clubs willing to pay.

City, meanwhile, view Amorim as a potential replacement for Guardiola, who has hinted at taking a break or moving on after his current spell at the Etihad. Amorim’s dynamic tactical approach, emphasis on youth development, and attacking style have made him a natural candidate to succeed the Spaniard, aligning with the club’s philosophy.

Both Manchester giants are expected to keep close tabs on Amorim’s situation as the season progresses. His availability next summer, coupled with growing uncertainty at United and City’s future planning, could lead to an intriguing managerial battle between the two rivals.

For now, Amorim remains focused on Sporting’s campaign, but it is becoming increasingly clear that his future lies at one of Europe’s top clubs—potentially with one of the Premier League’s biggest teams.
